“An unbiased chemical biology approach to understanding the mechanisms mediating tauopathy”

Tauopathies are a group of neurodegenerative diseases characterized pathologically by abnormal aggregates of the microtubule-associated protein tau in neurons and glia.  The mechanisms relating tau accumulation to neurological dysfunction and cell death are not understood and there are no effective treatments for these diseases.  Our work exploits novel zebrafish tauopathy models to dissect the underlying molecular pathogenesis, using unbiased screens and medium-throughput reverse genetics.  The seminar will focus on a chemical biology approach to understanding tauopathy in vivo using these models.
