My research is centered on the interplay of oxidants with nitric oxide in vascular dysfunction, including hypertension and atherosclerosis. I am particularly interested in the role of xanthine oxidase in the generation of elevated steady-state rates of formation of superoxide and hydrogen peroxide in diseased vascular tissue. Development of site-directed antioxidants to ameliorate local production of oxidants is also a critical focus of my research endeavors.
