Research Description:

Dr. Branch is a Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology and a nationally and internationally recognized, board certified clinical pharmacologist, whose main research has been on intersubject variability and mechanisms of regulation of drug metabolism in disease states, including liver disease. He is also the Director of the Center for Clinical Pharmacology, and the Program Director of the Montefiore-Clinical and Translational Research Center (MUH-CTRC), one of the 12 sites awarded the Clinical Translational Science Award by NIH/NCRR. Dr. Branch’s research interests and expertise are on the genetic and environmental regulation of drug metabolism, and the pharmacogenetic implications on drug development. His primary research focus has been on the pharmacogenetic contribution to the risk of bladder cancer and hepatic cancer. He continues to develop and expand the pharmacogenomic programs relevant to the etiology of a variety of disease states including Chronic Obstructive Airways Disease and is also actively engaged in research on the mechanisms that influence the selective regulation of drug metabolizing enzymes in aging, obesity, liver disease and pregnancy.
