Dr. Curran’s research interests lie in the area of natural products synthesis and the development of new synthetic methods. Dr. Curran is best known for his work in radical chemistry, where he is an acknowledged leader in the application of free radical reactions to problems in organic synthesis. His 1988 review in Synthesis on “The Design and Application of Free Radical Reactions in Organic Synthesis” is still one of the most often cited papers in the field, and during 1989 it was the most highly cited paper in all of chemistry (see The Scientist, Vol. 4, April 1990). More recently, his work in fluorous chemistry is opening new options for coupling synthesis and separation in both traditional and parallel synthesis.
