The Wang laboratory’s research interests are focused on understanding the signaling mechanisms and functions, and therapeutic targeting of diacylglycerol (DAG)-regulated protein kinases, particularly the protein kinase D (PKD) and protein kinase C (PKC) family kinases. These kinases have been strongly implicated in various stages of cancer development. Currently, the group is studying how PKD contributes to cancer cell growth, survival, migration and invasion, validate PKD as a therapeutic target for cancer, and develop novel small molecules that target PKD for therapeutic applications. The laboratory exploits a range of interdisciplinary approaches including methods of biochemistry, molecular biology, fluorescence imaging, structure biology, histology, animal models, and employs contemporary drug design and discovery approaches.
