“Only time will tell: Forays into bioactive lipids”

Carsten Skarke, M.D.
Research Assistant Professor
Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics
University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine

Specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) are described as a novel class of bioactive lipids formed from fish oil which exhibit a protective role in inflammatory processes. Mounting evidence, however, questions the clinical relevance of SPMs. This will be discussed in the context of the challenges the field of lipid biology faces. At the end, I will transition to outline our exciting endeavors to characterize the human chronobiome and discuss implications for drug development.
