“Structure and functional engineering of the muscarinic receptor toxin”

Transmembrane proteins play critical roles in cellular response to the extracellular signals and heir perturbation is responsible for a variety of pathophysiological states. G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) is the largest and among the best studied human surface receptor family. Muscarinic acetylcholine receptor (mAChR) family is a prototypical class A GPCR and extensively studied for the subtype selective allosteric modulation of the GPCR due to its conserved orthosteric ligand-binding site. In my talk, I will present our recent data on the structural basis of the strict recognition of mAChR1 by a natural snake toxin and its allosteric regulation. Furthermore, I will provide a promising data to repurpose this natural toxin for more broader use.
