"Exploring the role of progranulin on blood pressure regulation"

Thiago Bruder do Nascimento, PhD
Assistant Professor
Department of Pediatrics
University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine

Progranulin (PGRN) is extensively researched in neurodegenerative disorders due to its crucial role; its deficiency can lead to frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and may contribute to the onset of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. However, its impact on vascular biology and blood pressure regulation remains poorly understood. This seminar aims to elucidate the beneficial effects of PGRN in regulating endothelial biology, vascular tone, and blood pressure. It will specifically investigate the autocrine mechanisms by which endothelial PGRN modulates vascular tone and blood pressure, while also demonstrating that PGRN elicits distinct effects in large and small arteries.
